This is an American tradition (usually USMC) to represent or leave a marker on the battlefield to the fallen who died in glory, the fallens boots, kevlar, tags and weapon with bayonet are placed together in this arrangement, the bayonet is plunged into the ground or sandbag so that it can stand free and proud.
I have not fallen in battle but i am crushed inside and this is the only way i can represent it, there is no fight left in the rifle, its magazine has been spent, there is no bayonet to make this stand proud because it has to be supported through times ahead. The helmet that was supposed to offer protection was damged and dented, it gave up the fight too, all that remains is a name....
